Elaine Billmire '72
For Elaine Billmire '72, establishing a planned gift to Mount St. Joseph University was her way of giving back to the school that had given so much to her.
When Elaine was searching for colleges in 1968, she wanted a local, Catholic college that had a pre-med programand she found it at the Mount. The Mount gave her a four-year, full-tuition scholarship, which sealed her decision to attend. During her time at Mount St. Joseph, Elaine was in Glee Club and Student Government, and she also was part of both the Tripartite Council and the search committee for the new President. Elaine graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor's in Natural Science with a concentration in Chemistry.
From the Mount, Elaine went on to The Ohio State University College of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and then spent the next 40 years as a practicing physician.
Elaine and her husband David decided that since they both are now retired, it was time to make a long-term bequest to organizations that mean the most to them. Elaine chose to give to Mount St. Joseph University. She says, "Not only did my Mount education get me into medical school, but the confidence I gained from my Mount experienceas a woman, as a leader, as an organizeris an intrinsic part of who I am."
